Sri Lanka Eyes Investment Opportunities in South Africa

Following participation of Sri Lankan exporter’s at the SAITEX 2012 International Trade fair held in Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 15-17 July, 2012; business delegations from Sri Lanka are looking to explore more investment opportunities in South Africa.
About nine companies representing various sectors from Sri Lanka including Porcelain Tableware, Ceylon Black Tea, Green Tea, Organic Tea, Spices, Desiccated Coconut; Rubber based value added products such as Rubber Tyres, Floor Covering, Electrical Cables, Electrical Switches & Sockets, Enclosures and Automobile Component such as Airbag Sensor Switches, Seat Belt Sensor Switches etc., were at the Sri Lanka pavilion in the SAITEX 2012 International Trade fair.
According to Asian Tribune, the business visit was initiated by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Pretoria and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) to strengthen business relations with the existing buyers and to also find new buyers in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
While hosting business delegations from Sri Lanka, President of the World Trade Centre (WTC) of South Africa based in Cape Town, Dirk Kotze, said the business match-making portal developed by the WTC will promote products in the portal to enhance business opportunities in South Africa and in Africa as a whole.
Expressing further interest in maintaining investment ties with South Africa, the Sri Lankan business delegations said they were able to gain knowledge on business opportunities and to explore new ventures.
Meanwhile, Renier Schoeman of ANC Progressive Business Forum (ANC-PBF) revealed that the forum is planning to send a business delegation to Sri Lanka during 5th – 9th September 2012.
