The Tamil Information Centre (TIC) strongly condemns the horrific bomb blasts aimed at civilians in churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019.
The latest reports indicate that over 160 people were killed and over 500 injured in a series of explosions in Sri Lanka. At least 35 foreigners are among the dead, including British people. According to reports, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
We are deeply disturbed by this series of brutal attacks against civilians, places of worship and other public places in Sri Lanka. These attacks have caused immense human suffering. We share the pain of the people who have become victims of atrocious acts and their families. The TIC urges the Sri Lankan government to take immediate and concrete steps to bring the perpetrators to justice and protect the country’s civilians.
We also urge the International Community to support any efforts taken by the Sri Lankan Government to respond to these atrocities in an effective and just manner. We urge the government and all communities to work together to create an environment where all may live freely in accordance with their faith or beliefs.
All our prayers are with the victims of these terrible attacks and their families. Our thoughts are with all the people affected and those involved in the emergency response.
