The article mentioned the Chinese scholar’s view that China was willing to provide assistance as the Philippine government proposed a large-scale investment plan to develop its economy.

News: Problematising Hindi as the ‘Self’ and English as the ‘Other’
Posted Date: 10/03/2018 (Saturday)
In the light of the ongoing prioritisation of Hindi by the central government, the projection of Hindi as the “self” is problematic for several reasons. Three “self–other” binaries are discussed in this regard: Hindi–Hindu as “self,” Urdu–Muslim as “other”; Sanskrit-laden Hindi favouring upper caste Hindus as “self,” vernacular Hindi dialects often represented by the lower castes and classes as “other”; and fi nally Hindi as the epitome of “desi self,” English as “foreign other.” The controversy surrounding Hindi signs in the Bengaluru Metro has brought the issue of Hindi chauvinism in India to the forefront. On being asked to comment on the matter, the current government’s then Urban Development Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, referred to Hindi as the “national language,” adding,

News: Political leaders and media have a pivotal role to play to counter racism and communal violence in Sri Lanka.
Posted Date: 08/03/2018 (Thursday)
Traumatic experiences of the past should be lessons to overcome the adversities in the future. Sadly, roots of xenophobic intolerance of powerful few within all communities in Sri Lanka are endangering the fragile stability of our country further. The NRTSL condemn the latest round of politically motivated communal violence against the Muslim community that has triggered by a law and order issue between individuals of the two communities. News: Anti-Muslim violence rears its ugly head again in Sri Lanka
Posted Date: 06/03/2018 (Tuesday)
Inciting violence, hatred and threats against other citizens because of their diverse backgrounds is harmful for sustained peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. Ridiculing their religious beliefs and destroying their properties is terrifying for the targeted groups and distressing for the law abiding community members. A free nation shows its maturity by allowing minorities to enjoy the same rights and privileges the rest of the community is entitled to. In June 1980, Sri Lanka acceded to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and it came into force in September 1980. Article 17 of the ICCPR provides that “No person shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his privacy, family,

News: Office of Missing Persons Provides ‘Audacity Of Hope’ to Sri Lanka
Posted Date: 03/03/2018 (Saturday)
Let me begin on a very personal note. The first major emotional upheaval I underwent as a result of losing a very loved one, was when I lost my maternal grandfather in December 1968. I was 14 years old at that time. I was inordinately fond of him and he of me, his eldest grandchild. My grandfather had been ailing for some time and his impending demise was expected. Both his children, their spouses and all his grandchildren were around his bed when my grandfather breathed his last.
