Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) announced today that a rally will be held outside the United Nations headquarters in New York to protest Sri Lankan President Rajapakse's visit to the UN General Assembly on September 24th. This rally is to alert the UN leaders that among them is a war criminal posing as a Statesman and to highlight the gravity of the international crimes that the Sri Lankan President have committed against Tamils.

News: Commonwealth Secretary General’s NPC Elections Observer mission arrives in Sri Lanka

Following an invitation from the Commissioner of Elections Mahinda Deshapiriya, the Commonwealth Secretary-General has constituted an Observer Mission to the 2013 Northern Provincial Council Elections in Sri Lanka. The Mission will be lead by Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Former Vice President of Kenya. The Mission team will be in the country from 14 to 28 September 2013, and will be based mainly in Jaffna.

It’s an inconvenient truth–but the increasing number of teenage pregnancies is a troubling concern for both state authorities as well as social workers. Among the reported cases this year, girls as young as 11-years of age have become pregnant, falling victim to abuse and in many cases, incest. According to Family Health Bureau (FHB) statistics, on average, 20,000 females below the age of 20 become pregnant each year. Experts in the area say the main reasons are poverty, alcoholism, unstable family relationships and lack of proper sex education.

News: “Yarl Devi” Train service to Killinochchi launched by President Rajapakse

President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched the train service at Omanthai this morning and travelled onboard the ‘Yal Devi’ train to Kilinochchi. Train services resumed between Colombo and Kilinochchi today, for the first time in 23 years. The brand new Yarl Devi train S12 was imported from China and the Indian-based Ircon International re-built the 62-kilometre Northern railway line from Omanthai to Kilinochchi at a cost of US$185 million.

Women in three villages in Kilinochchi have been subjected to coercive population control, the Groundviews website reported. According to the report this incident occurred on August 31, 2013 at the Veravil government divisional hospital in Kilinochchi. The affected women reside in Valaipaddu, Veravil and Keranchi, three coastal villages.
