The Northern Province added around 78,000 jobs between 2011 and 2015, a 22 per cent increase in the labour force in the Province, which is also the largest percentage increase in the country, the World Bank (WB) in a report released on 9 October said. However, the jobs added to the labour force were predominantly concentrated in the Jaffna and Vavuniya Districts, two districts with relatively low poverty rates, it said.

Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena shocked his cabinet Tuesday by accusing neighbouring India of plotting to assassinate him on the eve of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to New Delhi, a ministerial source said.
