A team from the People’s Alliance for Right to Land (PARL) went to Keppapulavu on 26 January to support the reclaiming of lands occupied by the Military since 2008.
The community has been engaged in a continuous protest for almost two years.
Protestors this weekend faced intimidation and harassment by Police, and were under constant surveillance by the Military, a PARL in release issued yesterday (30) claimed.
Representatives will meet President Maithripala Sirisena and other relevant stakeholders, including the Military, the Northern Province Governor, the Defence Secretary, and the TNA today (31) in Colombo.
“We hope a permanent solution will be reached and the people will be able to return to their homes. We also reiterate our call to the President to keep to his promise of returning all occupied lands by 31 December 2018”, the statement further read.
