JHU claims the people are awaiting a floor test
Published Date: 08/11/2018 (Thursday)

The Jathika Hela Urumaya says the general public are eagerly awaiting a floor test when Parliament reconvenes on the 14th of November.

Vice Chairman of the JHU, Karunarathna Paranawithana speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today said, several UPFA factions are attempting to derail the Parliamentary democracy.

He said a vote must be taken on the 14th to end the present political instability in the country.

Paranawithana added at a time that the country is anticipating a solution, groups are proposing various other matters to delay the process.

He expressed his disappointment at certain Parliamentarians who he said, have started saying that they have alternatives if they do not have a majority in the House.

Paranawithana accused such individuals of attempting to promote a dictatorship and warned that such MPs will be served with the same spoon of democracy as at present.

Therefore he requested MPs to abstain from dancing to the tune of a dictatorship and take measures to protect democracy.

Parliamentarian Karunaratne Paranawithana said that the President and the purported government are attempting to derail the country adding steps are underway to call for a public referendum to justify illegal acts.

Paranawithana noted the shrewd acts they carried out have backfired, claiming they are now looking for remedies.

He state one such remedy was an attempt to dissolve Parliament yesterday adding they are now suggesting holding a public referendum.

Through the referendum, the Parliamentarian said, they are expecting to seek whether the public wants an election.

He claimed a public referendum cannot be transformed in to a law highlighting that if Parliament is to be dissolved it should be completed through a change in an article of the Constitution.
