Minister of National Integration, Reconciliation and Official Languages Mano Ganesan says programmes introduced for Parliamentarians to learn all three languages have been unsuccessful.
Speaking to media in Dambulla Minister Ganesan said the programme was a failure as Parliamentarians failed to attend teaching sessions.
Minister Ganesan stressed the public's money was used to initiate these classes in Parliament adding Tamil Parliamentarians were asked to learn Sinhala and Sinhala Parliamentarians were asked to learn Tamil.
He noted if he had the authority he will enforce a regulation that ensures a Parliamentarian should be fluent in all three languages to be elected to Parliament claiming this is how reconciliation and unity can be established in the country.
