Published Date: 09/01/2018 (Tuesday)

Six individuals including former Navy Media Spokesman Commodore DKP Dasanayake who were arrested and remanded on charges of assisting and issuing instructions for the abduction and disappearance of several persons, have been granted bail.

The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Manilal Waidyathilaka this afternoon.

Commodore Dasanayake was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department in July 2017 on charges of assisting and issuing instructions for the abduction and disappearance of the 11 youth between the years 2008 and 2009 in Colombo.

Dasanayake and one suspect were released on a 100,000 rupee bail each and three surety bail of 1 million rupees each.

The six suspects were ordered to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department every Saturday morning.

The judge also claimed that the suspects will be held in remand till the conclusion of investigations if they attempted to influence or intimidate witnesses in the case.
