Three countries funded Kandy Expressway- PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says funds have been received from China, Japan and India for the construction of the Kandy Expressway.

Speaking at a function in Kandy today the Minister said the Japanese government will provide funds to establish a special trade zone in Kandy adding that a Cultural and Tourist Centre will be constructed in Kandy to keep the tourists longer in the country.

The Premier added if the projects become successful a change will begin in Kandy adding as a result the stretch from Kandy to Digana will be developed.

Premier Wickremesinghe noted concerns pertaining to development will be solved step by step.

The Premier also said that Colombo was first limited to the Colombo Fort, next it was broadened to Pamankada and the next surrounding city Kotte was picked as the capital and the commercial capital adding till Digana the area should be expanded to a large city.

The Prime Minister stressed that tt needs a plan, schools and other facilities andding that there are several issues regarding development which need to be solved.

The Premier noted since Kandy is the main city in the interior of the country the pipelines, roads, car parks, new buildings and new shopping complexes need to be constructed and the activities in the initial city limit need to be carried out.
